DR DERRIN KERR

Oasis Music School Principal, Brass Teacher, Wind Teacher, Music Theory Teacher and Bass Teacher

Derrin has wide experience in music as a performer and an educator. Prior to working at Oasis Music School, Derrin was Head of Music at CQ University, Australia. During his 15 years as a tertiary music lecturer Derrin taught specialist instrumental tuition, music history, music theory, advanced jazz theory, composition, jazz and contemporary improvisation and ensemble direction. He has published in a variety of peer-reviewed music education journals. 

He was a co-founder of the internationally recognised Hamilton Island Music Project and director of the acclaimed CQU Jazz Orchestra. Derrin has performed with many leading jazz artists including James Morrison, Don Burrows, Vince Jones, Don Rader, Kristin Berardi, Emma Pask and Grace Knight, and Americans Michael Tracey, Michael Davison and Rick Holland. In 2006, Derrin was a speaker at the annual conference of the International Association of Schools of Jazz, in Louisville, USA.

Derrin loves teaching and enjoys seeing people develop their musical gifts & talents.
